Description
Used to collect blood during bloodletting
English or French silverplate; coat of arms engraved on an inset of silver indentation for chin on the rim of the dish.
A polished metal barber-surgeon’s bowl with a wide, shallow basin is shown against a plain background. The bowl has a curved notch along one side, allowing it to fit comfortably against a patient’s neck or arm during procedures such as bloodletting or shaving. The reflective surface highlights its smooth contours and rounded rim, typical of bowls used historically by barber-surgeons.
