Description
Photographs, Black and White ; 24 x 18 cm.
This aerial photograph shows a mixed industrial and residential area intersected by extensive railroad infrastructure. A dense grid of houses fills much of the center and lower right portions of the image, while large rail yards with parallel tracks dominate the left side. A roundhouse facility is visible near the upper left, connected to the sprawling network of tracks. Several large industrial plants with warehouses, storage tanks, and rail sidings appear in the lower right and upper right portions, close to a river that bends through the top right corner. Roads intersect at diagonals across the grid, adapting to the rail lines. The photograph is labeled “8226-73” in the upper right and marked “Fairchild Aerial Surveys Inc. N.Y.C.” at the bottom.
