Title
Basket of newly harvested olives, Morocco
Description
Many steps remain to be taken before these olives will be consumed. Some are pressed for their valuable oil. Others are saved for use as a basic food, rich in [relatively] healthy types of oil. Note the labor-intensive nature of this work. More developed Mediterranean countries utilize mechanization. 40% of Morocco's population work in agriculture, although it contributes less than 15% of the gross domestic product. Overpopulation is one of the country's major problems -- and Morocco is from the only southern Mediterranean country with this problem.
