Sepia-toned formal studio group portrait photograph shows the members of the architectural firm of Bethune, Bethune & Fuchs, Architects plus an employee/assistant posed in two rows against a plain backdrop in the late 1880s. Louise Bethune stands in front on the left, close to her husband Canadian architect Robert A. Bethune (to her left). Two additional younger men are standing on either side of the couple, slightly behind them. The young man to the right is their partner (as of 1891) and former protege and employee William L. Fuchs. The name of the young man at the far left is unknown. Each individual wears late nineteenth century style clothing, including high-collared garments and jackets. A printed studio mark and the location “BUFFALO N.Y.” appear along the right edge of the card mount which identifies the photographer as B.F. Powelson of Buffalo, New York. The sepia tones in the lower portion of the photograph gradually fade, typical of aged cabinet card photographs.
