Description
The image portrays a woman, presumably a University of Buffalo student or supporter, dressed in late-19th- or early-20th-century attire and standing next to a bicycle. The woman holds a flag marked “UB” in one hand and wears a hat with decorative feathers. The bicycle has thin tires and a chain guard, and the woman is positioned in front of a plain studio backdrop. Although not a portrait of the architect per se, Louise Blanchard Bethune reportedly purchased the first woman's bicycle to go on sale in Buffalo and was an active member of the Women's Wheel and Athletic Club.
