Mother sends love
Petersboro Feb. 25. 87.
My Darling Girl:
I was ever so
pleased to hear from you
once more. and should
have answered before
but. mother has been sick
and. I have been nurse
Dr. buddy, + Jack of all
trades. Mother intended
to start for the West. this
week. but she is still here
tho she may go as far as
Pa. in a day or two. I fear
to have her wait for one to
go to Commencement. as
it will make it late
for her to go. + I fear the
roads will be bad any way
& that it would hardly
pay to spend the money
to go to B. and only stay
a day. I expect to open an
office there in the Spring
if I can find a location
and money to settle in it
when found
Come + marry my
widower. he is all attention
brings me candy + fruit
He is a trifle dark for you
but he was kind to his first
wife and of course will
be better to the second
my cousin from Wis
is visiting us Walter Chaffee
He and I have just
finished playing
checkers. Out of five
games. I beat once [?]
ain’t that splendid for a
child of medicine. that shows
that my mind doesn't run
in the channel of games. but
soars!!!. Miss Johnston is
hated by the boys girl + Profs
Dr Carey gave her a scathing Ex
She asked him why and he told
her he had heard she said she
would be a star scholar. + he
thought he would give her a chance
to distinguish herself. poor girl
I pity her. She is over learning
but she has no home or mother
I am almost glad you
left the hospital because
I would not take the po
sition of nurse when you
are a Dr. Cant you borrow
the money. and then pay
interest? When I get rich
I am going to help girls.
If rich women die they al
ways leave their money
to institutions for young men
I have been interested in
a society of young people
I will send you a paper
the result. Dont view it with
a crickets eye. but pass
its imperfections by
I am rested in mind if
not in body and anxious to
go to work. My auntie in
California wants me to come
and live with her but I
cant go so far away from
my loved ones - Life would
not be worth living.
Mrs Packwood has just
moved into her new house
1280 Michigan they built
the house. Write soon
