Description
Two elongated, stylized figures stand in close proximity against a dark background. The figure on the right wears a flowing gown adorned with dangling gold heart shapes and a headdress with golden lines. One hand is raised to touch the forehead of the figure on the left. The other figure, dressed in decorated garments, holds their hands crossed at their chest and bows their head somberly. A third figure lying in repose, with arms across their chest, appears near the center between the two standing figures. At the bottom, gold lettering reads, “ALAS! ALAS! I KNOW NOT WHAT TO DO.” The piece is signed “FRANCES E. MACDONALD.”
