Subject

English poetry--19th century.
Description
A softly rendered figure faces left in profile, with a gentle tilt of the head and closed eyes. The figure wears a decorative white cap with green accents and appears to hold a stalk of small orange flowers. The figure's body is subtly outlined and mostly blends into the subdued brown background. Near the bottom left is the signature “MARGARET MACDONALD 1897–” written in black ink. The style is ethereal and minimal, with restrained color and fine detailing.
Pencil, watercolor, gold and silver paint on vellum
