Title
Jehane, from 'Golden Wings'
Subject
Watercolor painting--19th century.
English poetry--19th century.
Description
A delicate figure with long hair and a patterned gown stands at the front of a boat with a curved green prow and decorative elements. Several white swans glide in the water nearby. There is a raised structure at the stern of the boat, over which hangs a sheet, creating a covered space from which to control the rudder. The background is dark and textured, with indistinct elements suggesting a shoreline or enclosure. The composition has a dreamlike, ethereal quality. Signed “Frances E. Macdonald 1897” in the lower left corner.
Pencil, watercolor, gold and silver paint on vellum
