Title
Grand entry and portal, Volubilis, Morocco
Description
Immortalized in the film 'Patton,' this set of magnificent arches stands in north-central Morocco, on the edge of the Atlas mountains. At its height, the Roman empire ruled all around the Mediterranean, which they called 'Mare Nostrum' -- 'our sea.' Evidence of Roman settlement can be found in many parts of North Africa, with some of the finest mosaics in Tunisia and Libya.
